Joanna most recently lived in Frisco, Texas. She is a senior at St. Edward’s University studying Writing and Rhetoric. For the past two years, she worked with multiple school organizations and another nonprofit, Foundation Communities, gaining experience with leadership development, event planning and volunteer management.

erica Blue

Chief Executive Officer

Originally from Alief, an area on the southwest side of Houston, Texas, Erica was the first person in her family to go to college. For the past decade, she has dedicated her career to causes she was positively impacted by as a kid. Erica was most recently with the national nonprofit, Marathon Kids, as their Chief Operations Officer, and helped scale the organization from programming in three to all 50 states. She graduated from Sam Houston State with a BA in Communication Studies and from Texas Christian University with a MS in Communications Studies in Human Relations. She is excited to help take Austin Sunshine Camps to the next level.

Michelle Conner

event sales manager, zilker lodge rental program

Michelle grew up in Pasadena, Texas and left for college in San Marcos where she fell in love with the river, nearby Lake Travis, and the endless outdoor activities. She graduated from Texas State with a BS in Business Education and Communications. Her two decades of business experience includes building and growing organizations and leading and organizing events and team building. Her favorite volunteer activities always include working with active kids and having fun. After touring ASC and Zilker Lodge, seeing all the smiling faces of the campers and counselors and hearing the leaders’ passion for the mission, Michelle knew this is where she wanted to share her experience and make an impact. She is excited to be a part of the ASC team and to provide our Zilker Lodge clients and guests with an extraordinary experience and exceptional service.

lawrence english

Lawrence grew up in Beaumont, Texas and attended the University of Houston from where he brings his wife and three children. He has been working with youth since the age of 18, and was immediately drawn to camp life. He loves being a positive influence in every child’s life and helping them create awesome memories. He has summer camp experience out of state and abroad in Cairo, Egypt. Lawrence comes to us from Playworks, bringing experience supporting all programming efforts as well as building school partnerships, training, HR and office management. In his spare time he likes to hang out with his family, cheer for all Houston teams (Go Astros!), BBQ, be active and spend time with friends. He is excited to meet, learn and grow with the Austin Sunshine Camps Community.

sarah fountain

Sarah Fountain is originally from Florida but has been in Austin since she was in middle school. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a BSA in Human Development and Family Sciences and a BA in Iberian and Latin American Languages and Cultures. After graduating, Sarah gained valuable experience with multiple youth development nonprofits focused on mentoring, youth sports and after school programming. She joined the Austin Sunshine Camps team in February of 2018 and is excited to continue serving Central Texas children and families.

erica garcia

Erica Garcia is originally from Georgetown, Texas but moved to Austin when she was 12 years old. She gained much of her 15 years of accounting experience working with a diverse set of companies throughout her career. Throughout her time in the financial industry, Erica gained a love for all people who use their talents and resources to help others and joined ASC as an opportunity to make a difference within her community. As a past ASC camper, Erica is excited to use her talents and skill set to grow ASC and further help send more kids to camp.

Megan Grayless

Megan is originally from Virginia but has spent the past 10 years in Austin leading youth-based projects at the University of Texas School of Public Health. Megan enjoys building relationships and is passionate about positive youth development. She received a BS in Health Sciences from James Madison University and a Master of Public Health in Health Promotion, Education and Behavior from the University of South Carolina. Megan is excited to be part of the Austin Sunshine Camps Team.

Hannah hicks

Hannah grew up in Galveston, Texas, an island 45 minutes south of Houston. She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Communication Studies.  She has worked for nonprofit organizations since 2017 and moved to Austin in August of 2018. Hannah is excited to do her year of AmeriCorps service with ASC.

mary keenan

Mary grew up mostly in Houston, after stops in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Maryland. In 1997, after far too long on the East Coast, she came to Austin and hopes never to leave. She has spent more than 20 years helping nonprofit organizations promote social justice through fundraising and strategic planning. Mary earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and Theatre from Sewanee: University of the South and an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School.

alex sandoval

Alex Sandoval was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. When he was 16 years old he began volunteering as a football coach as well as a tutor for children in after school care facilities. At 18 he began coordinating summer camp programs at four locations across El Paso. At 20, he became an assistant director for the child development center. He graduated from University Texas Arlington with a Bachelor’s in business management, being the first in his family to go to college, Alex then become a director for a child development center, there he oversaw the well being and care of over 165 kids, and was voted best child development center in El Paso. He has recently moved to Austin Texas to learn from the amazing staff at Austin Sunshine Camps, and be a part of an awesome organization.
