In the summer of 2014, Zilker Park will be closed for renovations and will not host summer camp. For 2014 ONLY, we will have 8-13 year olds at our Lake Travis facility, please visit the Lake Travis Summer Camp page for more information.
Since we welcomed our first campers in 1928, the Austin YMBL Sunshine Camps has opened a world of possibilities to the youth of Central Texas by providing free week long summer camps.
Our Zilker Park camp is located inside Zilker Park near Barton Springs Pool; it serves campers 7 – 11 years of age. The camp program, under the supervision of experienced counselors, offers activities such as swimming in Barton Springs or Deep Eddy pool, fishing, canoeing, handicrafts, nature study, hikes, games, and a ropes course with a variety of elements including a team wall, and trust fall. Transportation to camp and three meals a day is included.
Campers take home increased confidence and leadership abilities, better problem-solving skills, and friendships that last a lifetime. They learn to resolve conflicts, value diversity, and to share in the success of the group. Fun becomes the foundation on which courage, self-respect, cooperation, and leadership are built.
In 2013, Austin Sunshine Camps completed our $3.5 million capital campaign to completely rebuild our Zilker Camp location. The current building was built in 1932 and last renovated in the 1970’s. It does not have central heat or air and floods every time it rains. We are beginning construction in the Spring of 2014 and will be closed through the end of the year. We are sad to miss a summer at our Zilker Park location; however, this remodel is essential to ensure the safety and comfort of our campers and staff. The good news is that our new facility will be larger and will allow us to invite more youth in 2015. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to unveiling our new building in late 2014!
The Austin YMBL Sunshine Camp is committed to assuring that our program is made available to all persons and provided to all eligible individuals without regard to race, color, national origin, age, gender, disability, political belief or religion.
